Founder and Director of Education at EVRYMAN
For more than 40 years OWEN MARCUS has explored and developed programs that bring together mindfulness, somatic psychotherapy, and the science of emotional physiology. After healing the many physical and mental challenges of his dyslexia and Asperger’s Syndrome, he realized his relationship skills were lacking. Identifying his resistance to working with men as his next challenge, he dove into creating his first men’s group at his clinic in Scottsdale, AZ in 1995.
Unsatisfied with the status quo, Owen began expanding the model of men’s groups, incorporating what he saw working in corporate trainings and his clinic. Men embraced this new model -- it’s a natural model for men’s way of experiencing and expressing emotions. It worked, and men’s relationships began to transform. His group and this new model were the focus of the documentary About Men. His book, Grow Up: A Man’s Guide to Masculine Emotional Intelligence, lays out how to complete the nine stages of emotional maturation that boys and men skip over through no fault of their own.
As the Director of Education at EVRYMAN, Owen, along with his co-founder and team, continues to develop effective ways for men to use their emotions and their physiology as tools to create fulfilling relationships and purposeful lives. Owen teaches this new human technology to men for their professional development and to psychotherapists as a new paradigm for working with men.
